Homework information

posted Sep 13, 2017, 7:48 AM by Chapman Hill

This year at Chapman Hill we are continuing with limited homework.  This does not mean your child will never have homework, but it does mean that your child’s teacher will not be assigning work to be completed solely at home.  If your child does not complete classwork, it will come home for them to complete.  Please check your child’s backpack each day for any unfinished classwork.

There is still an expectation that each child will read at home.  Additionally, students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are expected to practice their math facts.  Students in grade 4 and 5 may bring home projects, but there will be communication regarding any projects prior to them coming home.  Beyond that, we encourage you to spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success:  eat dinner as a family, play outside, and get your child to bed early.

Expectations by grade level:

All grades - read each evening.

2nd grade – one math page per week

3rd grade – cursive writing practice

4th grade – work on math facts, project-based learning.

5th grade - work on math facts, project-based learning.  5th grade students who need additional support in math may also have some homework to complete.  Your child’s teacher will communicate with you regarding this.
